Spell Read P.A.T. (Phonological Auditory Training)....

Child Psychology Associates, P.A. is proud to offer in our office the Spell Read P.A.T. intervention program for children and adults with reading disability/dyslexia and reading inefficiencies.

Spell Read P.A.T. is a phonologically based intervention program and not a reading tutoring program;

It provides systematic and direct instruction in:
-- phonemic awareness—noticing, identifying and manipulating the sounds of spoken language;
--phonics---learning how letters and letter groups represent the sounds of spoken language, sounding out words, spelling, reading sight words, vocabulary building, and reading comprehension;
--practice in applying these skills in reading and in writing;
--fluency training
--and a graduated reading curriculum
Spell Read is carried out in three phases totaling 140 lessons and typically requires 100 to 120 hours of intervention to complete all three phases. Parent involvement is critical as parents reinforce at home the activities covered in their Spell Read sessions.

Phase A:
--introduces each of the 44 sounds of the English language (18 vowels & 26 con)
--begins with CV, moves to VC and then CVC
--emphasis in Phase A is on MASTERY, making those sounds COMPLETE, SECURE, and AUTOMATIC
-- reinforcement of reading intervention with actual reading materials, speed read cards, and writing activities
Phase B:
--introduces and teaches the secondary spellings and consonant blends
--develops auditory-visual automaticity at the two-syllable level
--introduces syllabication, where the student identifies syllables.
--emphasis in Phase B, again, is on MASTERY, making those sounds COMPLETE, SECURE, and AUTOMATIC
-- reinforcement of reading intervention with actual reading materials, speed read cards, and writing activities
Phase C:
-- continues to develop syllabication skills beyond two syllables
--introduces the common clusters (e.g., tion, tious, tient, ture)
--introduces pronunciation and spelling of verb forms (e.g., ed., ing)
-- reinforcement of reading intervention with actual reading materials, speed read cards, and writing activities
Spell Read, P.A.T. provides a systematic way of identifying the initial skills and areas of deficiencies and provides continuous testing throughout the various phases of the intervention to assess the effectiveness of the program

Battery of tests include:
--Gray Oral Reading Test
--Woodcock Johnson Reading Mastery Tests (Word Attack and Word ID)
--Schonell Spelling Test
--Spell Read PAT phonological skills battery
--analysis
--synthesis
--listening
--vowel mastery
--consonant mastery
--pseudoword spelling test
--auditory memory

Spell Read, P.A.T. is an evidence-based program—there is scientific evidence that this program is effective and you can find documentation of this evidence on the Spell Read website: www.spellread.com
